On target for Argentina in the 2-0 friendly win over Panama on Thursday, Paris Saint-Germain’s consensus GOAT Lionel Messi reached the incredible milestone of 800 goals for club and country – but there are plenty of records left for the man now on 99 Argentina goals…

Lionel Messi’s superb free-kick in the friendly win over Panama was in some ways an unremarkable goal; Messi has been banging these home for 20 years now and genuine surprise is not really among the reactions available to football fans when La Pulga (seemingly inevitably) does it yet again.

However, when viewed from the perspective of the Argentine’s all-time goal tally, it was a massive achievement, as it took the Rosario native to 800 goals for club and country in his glittering career.

This tally includes 672 goals from Messi’s 17 seasons with Barcelona, 29 from his time with¬†Paris Saint-Germain¬†and 99 goals for his beloved Argentina – for whom he could hit the century-mark when the Albiceleste take on Curacao on Tuesday.
