Rwanda national team head coach Frank Torsten Spittler has said there are many foreign based players who wants to play for Amavubi.

Amavubi, the national football team, had a great start to the 2026 World Cup. The country leads Group B with four points from two games.

“The players abroad are calling us every day. They want to play for the national team. So, it’s our tasks to know their calibre,” Spittler told the Press on Thursday, January 25.

Spittler also mentioned that Rwanda doesn’t need a world class coach as the country only needs a developmental coach to build the foundation, which is what he is doing now.

“You (Rwandans) don’t need a world-class coaches like Spain’s coach or other. The coach you need is the one who teaches the basic football knowledge because most of the players here didn’t get the basic knowledge.”

Rwanda’s next major assignment is in June when Amavubi will face Benin and Lesotho in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
