Lycée de Kigali Gymnasium will, for the first time, host an international basketball competition in the forthcoming Under-16 Zone V African Basketball Championship qualifiers slated for June 28-30.
The 1500-seater which was inaugurated in February has so far been hosting Rwanda basketball league games.
The qualifiers are expected to attract four countries in the boys’ category including hosts Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and Uganda while the girls’ category will bring together Burundi, Tanzania and Rwanda.
The Rwandan U-16 boys’ and girl’s teams are under the stewardship of Patrick Habiyaremye and Jacques Bahige respectively.
While Algeria, Angola, Egypt, Mali Uganda and hosts Tunisia have already qualified for the continental showpiece, six remaining tickets will be determined through the qualifiers in Kigali.
The continental tournament will also serve as a qualifier for the 2024 FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup for men and women.
