Villarreal have reached a transfer agreement with AC Milan for Samu Chukwueze, who has left the Spanish club after six years.

AC Milan have signed Nigerian forward Samu Chukwueze from Villareal.

Chukwueze signed for the Yellows in the 2017/18 season to strengthen the U19s (Juvenil A) in attack. However, his brilliant role in the Yellows’ youth team soon led him to make the jump to Villarreal B, with whom he played a spectacular final stretch of the league season and subsequent promotion play-offs to in which he scored two goals and provided an assist.

The Nigerian’s meteoric rise would continue in the 2018/19 season. Chukwueze made his first team debut on 20th September 2018 against Rangers FC in the Europa League and would soon earn a place in the side coached at the time by Javi Calleja. That same season, the winger made a total of 35 appearances for the first team in which he scored six goals – some of them of great importance like the one against Girona at Montilivi or against Levante at the Ciutat de Valencia – becoming one of the breakout players of the competition.

During the following seasons Samu Chukwueze continued to be an important player in the plans of the various head coaches who have passed through the club during his time at the club. Chukwueze, Europa League champion with Villarreal and one of the most popular players among the club’s fans, leaves behind goals that will go down in the club’s history, such as the one scored against FC Bayern at the Allianz Arena in the quarter-finals of the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League or the brilliant performance at the Santiago Bernabéu last season.
