Unlike Liverpool, hooked on Fulham, Tottenham had no trouble getting rid of Southampton (4-1) on Saturday

At the start of a season that could see Spurs having fun playing spoilsport and defying the odds against the behemoths of Liverpool and Manchester City , Tottenham got off to a perfect start to the English championship with a resounding success against in Southampton, defeated 4-1.

In the traditional 3-4-3 which forged the reputation and glory of its coach, Antonio Conte , but without his new recruits – almost all of whom came into play during the match (Perisic, Bissouma, Lenglet, etc.) – at the kick of sending off, Tottenham did not take long to get into their legs.

In the lead at the break but with a single goal lead on the scoreboard, the Spurs clearly accelerated after returning from the locker room. Building on the solid foundations of recent seasons (Dier, Son, Kulusevski…), the Spurs remained the most enterprising on the pitch, while adding a hint of efficiency to their performance in the second half. Antonio Conte’s players are ideally starting their season one week before a first clash against Chelsea, a shock that should provide information on the ambitions of the London club.

Without a trophy since 2008, and not a title of champion of England since 1961, Tottenham has achieved an ambitious transfer window to ward off fate and no longer expose itself to the laughing stock of its rivals. With a workforce as large as the one his management has made available to him, Antonio Conte now has plenty of time to implement his ambitious game plan. Champion in his first season at Chelsea, the Italian coach dreams of reproducing such a performance. It’s only the first day, but it’s off to a good start.
