UEFA unveiled the official ball for the 2022-2023 Champions League group stage on Thursday

As every year, ahead of the draw for the Champions League group stage , UEFA unveiled the official ball for the competition. At least, for the first six games, which will be played this year on a tight schedule due to the World Cup at the end of the year in Qatar.

“A design inspired by the darkest depths of the universe”

Logically, we find the stars on the ball of the Champions League , made by Adidas. These are colorful “In the darkness of space, the stars shine brightly. With a design inspired by the darkest depths of the universe, this adidas UCL Pro Void ball was created to help the best players of European football to shine on the pitch,” reads the store’s website. Vibrant graphics cover the seamless heat-sealed surface that encases a high-quality butyl bladder.”

As a reminder, two French clubs have qualified for this group stage: PSG and OM, the first two of the last Ligue 1 season. AS Monaco failed to pass the third preliminary round. The draw will take place this Thursday from 6 p.m., from Istanbul, where the final will take place at the Ataturk Stadium.

The path will be strewn with pitfalls in this season interrupted by the World Cup-2022 in Qatar (November 20-December 18): the group stage of the C1 will be condensed from the beginning of September to the beginning of November, forcing most of the leaders to play all the three days. And this unusual schedule will push the final to June 10, 2023.

The Atatürk Olympic Stadium will bring back fond memories for Liverpool, crowned here in 2005 after a legendary match. And less good at AC Milan: the 2022 Italian champions led 3-0 against the Reds at half-time, before being joined at 3-3 and losing on penalties. This failure could have discouraged the Milan coach at the time, a certain Carlo Ancelotti, for life.
