The legal setbacks of Michel Platini and Sepp Blatter may not be over. RMC Sport is able to confirm on Monday that the Swiss prosecution plans to appeal after the acquittal at first instance of the two former FIFA leaders, in the case of the payment of two million Swiss francs.

Acquitted during the first trial, on July 8, Michel Platini and Sepp Blatter could be retried on this case of the alleged unfair payment of 2 million Swiss francs (1.9 million euros) received by the legend of the Blues from the former FIFA President.

As announced by Le Monde , and confirmed to RMC Sport, the public prosecutor of the Swiss Confederation (MPC) filed “an appeal announcement”, on July 15, with the Federal Criminal Court of Bellinzona (TPF). An option considered following the release of the two former leaders. In fact, notification of the reasoned judgment will take place in the coming months. The prosecution will then have twenty days to validate its appeal (or retract).

Harshly criticized for several years because of this case, Michel Platini and Sepp Blatter finally emerged cleared after the court verdict. At first instance, the TPF did not follow the requisitions of the prosecution, which had requested in mid-June a year and eight months in prison suspended for the two accused, who claimed their innocence.

“I am not innocent in my life, but I am in this case,” said Sepp Blatter on his arrival in court before the reading of the judgment.

As the procedure allows, the Swiss prosecution should therefore refer the former playmaker of the France team and the ex-president of FIFA to the court on appeal.
