El Pistolero is back in his training club. In a video posted on his social networks on Tuesday evening, Luis Suarez announced that he had reached a pre-agreement with the Uruguayan club Nacional, before flying to Qatar for the World Cup.

Former FC Barcelona and Liverpool star Luis Suarez announced on Tuesday evening that he had reached “a preliminary agreement” to return to his training club in Uruguay, the Nacional, for three months before the World Cup in Qatar.

The top scorer in the history of the Uruguayan selection (68 goals), who should participate in his fourth World Cup, is free of any contract after leaving Atlético de Madrid at the end of last season. Suarez must commit for at least three months with the Nacional and play the closing tournament of the Uruguayan championship while preparing for the 2022 World Cup (November 21-December 18).

“Impossible to reject the possibility of returning to play for the Nacional”

“First of all, I would like to thank you for the great affection shown to me and my family in recent days,”

Luis Suarez said in a video posted on his social media accounts. The club’s supporters have recently launched a real campaign on social networks to convince El Pistolero to return to the club.

According to him, this made it impossible ‘to reject the possibility of returning to play for Nacional’.

“We have a preliminary agreement with the club. The details will be finalized in the next few hours.”

Club president Jose Fuentes has confirmed that the two sides only need to ‘work out a few details’ but that Suarez ‘should surely arrive next week’.

The goalscorer made his professional debut for Nacional aged 18 in May 2005. After a full season, he moved to Groningen in the Netherlands and then to Ajax a year later. It was there that he came to the attention of Liverpool , the club with whom he won the League Cup in 2012 and finished as the Premier League’s top scorer in 2014. After three and a half seasons in England, he joined FC Barcelona for more than 80 million euros.

It was in Catalonia that he experienced his most prosperous period, forming the MSN Messi-Suarez-Neymar, winning four Spanish league titles and the Champions League in 2015. Top scorer in La Liga in 2016, he won his second Golden Shoe. He will win La Liga again with Atlético de Madrid in 2021 .
