Ronaldo wins goal of the season award and wins Manchester United’s player of the year award.

Cristiano Ronaldo has won Manchester United’s Goal of the Season award.

The 37-year-old claimed the majority of your votes for his blistering first goal against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford, back in March.

Ronaldo would go on to complete a hat-trick in the match as the Reds ran out 3-2 winners in front of an atmospheric home crowd.

Having received the ball around 30 yards out following a neat flick from Fred, Ronaldo took one touch to control and one to set himself up before powering a ferocious long-range strike past Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

His traditional ‘Siuuu!’ celebration followed, as embraced by the Theatre of Dreams, as CR7 went on to produce a display to remember in the victory.

Coincidentally, the forward’s superb volley in the reverse fixture against Spurs was the runner-up in this season’s official poll, while Alex Telles’s precise effort versus Villarreal finished third.

With the effort topping our poll, the Portuguese has now won our official award an outright record four times since it was first introduced in 2005/06.

Ronaldo was previously tied with his former team-mate Wayne Rooney on three triumphs, having completed a hat-trick of wins during his first spell at the club.

The forward had been the first-ever winner of the accolade, for another long-range strike in England’s top flight, away to Portsmouth.

After Paul Scholes’s memorable volley at Aston Villa claimed the award in the following season, Ronaldo then regained the crown in the final two campaigns of his first United stint.

In 2007/08, Portsmouth were again his victims, as our no.7’s Old Trafford free-kick against the south-coast club won the award before his long-range strike away to Porto in the Champions League ensured he repeated the feat 12 months later.

It caps off an impressive return campaign at Old Trafford for CR7, who scored 24 times in total and and was voted Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year for 2011/22 by the fans.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been voted by Manchester United fans as the club’s Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year.

The Portuguese forward netted 24 goals in 39 appearances for United in 2021-22 following his return to the club last summer and claims the award for the fourth time.

“Cristiano Ronaldo has been crowned Manchester United’s Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year in his first season back at the club,” the club said on their official website.

Ronaldo, who also won the award in 2003-04, 2006-07 and 2007-08, has now equalled team-mate David de Gea in claiming the prize on four separate occasions.

“Our no.7 has enjoyed a clinical campaign, registering 24 goals in all competitions and defying anyone who doubted whether the 37-year-old could still perform in the cut and thrust of English football after his long stints in Spain and Italy,” United went on to add.

“The majority of Ronaldo’s strikes – 18 – came in the Premier League, a tally that positioned him third behind only Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-min who shared the Golden Boot prize.”

Despite Ronaldo’s goals, United were only able to finish sixth in the Premier League in 2021-22.
