Back at Inter Milan to play the 2022-2023 season there, Romelu Lukaku wants to put behind him the last exercise spent in the Chelsea workforce. If he is still a Blues player, since he is on loan at Inter, the Belgian striker did not hesitate to look back on his difficult year with Chelsea and wants to remind everyone of the great scorer he perhaps.

On August 12, 2021, Chelsea formalized one of the transfers of the summer by recruiting Romelu Lukaku, the striker from Inter Milan, for 113 million euros. One season, 15 goals in 44 games in all competitions and a tussle with Thomas Tuchel later , Lukaku is back at Inter where he was loaned out by Chelsea for the full 2022-23 season.

Almost a year to the day after signing with the Blues, the Belgian forward answered questions from DAZN in an attempt to explain what went wrong last season for the London side.

“A lot of things went wrong. When I left (Inter), I wanted to take my revenge on Chelsea”,

Explained Lukaku.

Arrived in 2011 at Chelsea, at the age of 18 from Anderlecht, Lukaku had never really had the opportunity to prove his worth with the Blues. Loaned to West Bromwich Albion then to Everton, the Belgian ended up signing definitively with the Toffees in 2014, before joining Manchester United in 2017, then Inter Milan in 2019.

“Everyone has forgotten the things I am capable of doing”

His return to Chelsea in the summer of 2021, Lukaku therefore saw it as the opportunity to finally win with the Blues.

“I thought I would be a hero there, but that was not the case,”

“I think in a year everyone has forgotten the things I can do on the pitch.”

Explained the 29-year-old striker, who never found favor in the eyes of Tuchel.

Top scorer of the 2020-2021 Serie A season with 24 goals, Lukaku seems to hold Chelsea largely responsible for this poor 2021-2022 season. Asked about his career and the clubs that shaped him, the Belgian striker did not quote the Blues in his response:

“Inter, Anderlecht and Everton gave me the opportunity to become the player I am. .”

“The season at Chelsea has given me extra motivation to do even better than before. (…) It’s a kind of anger that I have in me. The team has it too, since She didn’t win anything last year, and all together, we hope to do better and win something,” says the new Inter striker.

Still, Lukaku now seems more motivated than ever.

A second season on loan at Inter?

Lukaku had no “doubts”.

“At Inter I was a good player, while the season at Chelsea was difficult. That’s why I made the decision to come back here”.

Regarding his return to Italy

While Chelsea are reportedly interested in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to bolster their attacking sector following Timo Werner’s departure to RB Leipzig , Lukaku’s future at the Blues appears to be looking bleak.

The Telegraph even specifies that the Belgian striker could stay for a second season in a row on loan at Inter Milan if the 2022-2023 season goes well for him. It remains to be seen whether Lukaku will wish to continue his great adventure with the Nerazzurri or try once again to win at Chelsea, the club that has made him dream since a young age.
