The 26-year-old was pulled over in the early hours of Thursday morning, and a Northumbria Police spokesman confirmed to the Evening Chronicle he had been charged for being over the ‘prescribed limit for alcohol’.

“Shortly before 1.20am today (Thursday), officers pulled over a vehicle in the Ponteland Road area of Newcastle and arrested the occupant,” a “Joelinton Casio, 26, of Ponteland, has since been charged whilst above the prescribed limit for alcohol.

“He is due to appear before magistrates in Newcastle on January 26.”

Statement read.

There has been no comment from Newcastle United.

The Magpies are flying high in the Premier League, and beat Leicester City 2-0 on Wednesday evening to advance to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

Joelinton scored the second goal in he 2-0 win over the Foxes at St James’ Park.

The Brazilian moved to Newcastle from Hoffenheim in 2019.

He was named the club’s Player of the Year for the 2021/22 season.
