Man United turned down opportunity to sign Erling Haaland for £4m in 2018 – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reveals
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that he offered Manchester United a chance to buy Erling Haaland for just £4 million before he signed for RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund.
“I called United about six months before I took over… but they didn’t listen”.Speaking to The Sun, Solskjaer said
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reveals he urged Man United to sign Erling Haaland for just £4MILLION when he was Molde manager in 2018… with striker now at rivals Man City.
Erling Haaland, 22, has taken the Premier League by storm this season after breaking the Premier League goals tally record.
The Norwegian’s rise to prominence in England won’t come as a surprise to former Manchester United player and manager, Solskjaer, who gave Haaland his professional debut for Molde.
But it turns out he could have been at United if the club had listened to Solskjaer just before he became manager at Old Trafford in 2018.
“I asked for £4million for Haaland but they didn’t sign him.”
During his time at Molde, Haaland scored 20 goals in 50 games, with all of those appearances coming under Solskjaer. He had joined the club from Bryne in 2017.
Haaland has 35 goals in his first Premier League season, yet Manchester City have four matches left to play as they battle with Arsenal for the title.
City paid £50 million for Haaland last summer and it already looks like a bargain.
If only United listened to Solskjaer and got him for £4m…
“When I signed with City he congratulated me and wrote to me ‘Good luck on going to the wrong side of Manchester’,
“We talk sometimes. As you know, he had a huge impact on my career when I was at Molde. He’s a good guy.”Haaland told the Manchester Evening News.
However, after years of signing strikers after their best before date, United are desperate for an elite-level goalscorer in the summer.
Marcus Rashford has provided 29 goals this season from the left flank, but Erik ten Hag wants to add a new central piece to his attack.
Anthony Martial gets too many injuries and Wout Weghorst is not a goalscorer. The Dutch striker has been at United since January, but he has only managed 2 goals and none of them have come in the league.
