“If you have 1 car, why do you need 10?”

Hector Bellerin.

Hector Bellerin has never been shy when it comes to speaking out on matters of societal import. It should, therefore, come as no surprise to hear the former Arsenal defender calling on his fellow professionals to pay more tax as people around the world struggle with the cost of capitalism that has been branded a ‘cost of living’ crisis.

“We, the footballers, are the people who should pay the most taxes”,

“We don’t need as many things as we think and I lead a very normal life.

“We live in a capitalist world, a lot is about buying and getting more things, but it doesn’t get you anywhere.

“If you already have one car, why do you need ten?

“Everyone wants to earn more money to be as comfortable as possible.

“We, footballers, are in a very privileged position.

“We worked hard and made many sacrifices, but we must be aware of what we have, where we come from and we should be the first to want to contribute to the stability of our society.”

Bellerin said, as he asked players to wake up and get out of the “bubble” that distances them from reality.

Bellerin took a 50% paycut to sign for Barcelona on a year-long deal.
