FC Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has ruled out a move to Manchester United during an interview on Catalan radio.
The Dutchman featured on the ‘Tu Diras’ program on RAC1 Thursday evening, and was asked about a time last summer when Barca reportedly accepted a €80 million ($84.6 million) offer for him from the Premier League giants.
De Jong decided to stay put with reports claiming that United’s lack of Champions League football and a desire to succeed under head coach Xavi Hernandez were his primary motives for doing so.
While there was a media frenzy around his future in one of the biggest transfer sagas of the year, De Jong recalled:
“I was fine. Calm, because I knew I wanted to continue at Barca and I have not changed my mind.”
“I am very happy and I want to continue for many years at Barca,”
He later reiterated, when probed on a potential switch to Old Trafford once more.
De Jong explained that he is “very happy, comfortable, and participating more in the game,” in the 2022/2023 season, where he has flourished under Xavi as Barca enjoy a nine-point lead at the top of the La Liga table.
