Football fans are shocked to discover the truth about Manchester United captain Harry Maguire’s real name.
He’s been a household name since moving to United in 2019 and for his performances for England, but many fans don’t know his real name.
When we say his real name, he is called Harry Maguire – but it turns out ‘Harry’ is his middle name.
Maguire’s real name is actually Jacob Harry Maguire and has gone by Harry since an early age.
Whilst it isn’t breaking news, it’s still been a funny discovery for fans who have discovered this at different times over recent years.
The former Leicester and Sheffield United defender have endured a torrid time in the last year and have found himself dropped by United and England following a consistently poor set of performances that have built over time.
Now the attention turns to the World Cup, with Gareth Southgate likely to still opt to take him to Qatar off the back of his impressive performances in the World Cup in 2018 and the European Championships in 2021.
Signed as the most expensive defender in football history, he was always going to find himself battling the weight and pressure of that price tag – but that’s part and parcel of being a top player.
Fans have not hidden their feelings towards Maguire with England fans opting to boo his name when he was announced to start against Germany in the Nations League in the last international break.
He’s also been told that it’s too late to save his United career by Jamie Carragher but some players have come out in support of Maguire, who has received a huge amount of abuse, with Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams two examples in recent times.
It’s unclear what the future holds for Maguire and whether he can revive his United and England career, but there’s no doubt he needs to improve.
