The world’s richest man surely has the money necessary for the purchase.

Even though Elon Musk is in the midst of his legal battle with Twitter, he took to the social media platform to say that he’s buying Premier League’s Manchester United.

While Musk was in the midst of a political ideology discussion on Twitter, he ended the thread with the following message: “Also, I’m buying Manchester United ur welcome”.

Can Elon Musk truly buy Manchester United?

Certainly a billionaire like Elon Musk, who’s worth around $260 billion, could afford buying Manchester United, one of the world’s most popular football clubs, with a loyal fan base and strong finances.

The club had a market capitalization of over $2 billion dollars as of this Tuesday’s stock market close, according to Reuters.

Also as of may, Forbes had Manchester United valued at around $4.6 billion dollars, with a revenue of over $633 million in the last year.

Who owns Manchester United?

The Glazer family is the current owner of Manchester United, after they bought it in 2005 for around $1,000 million dollars, with the clubs valuation only going up since.

But unfortunately for the Glazer family, the team’s play on the pitch hasn’t matched their economic success, and in the recent years their has been an ever increasing sector of the fans that call for them to sell the team.

The anti-Glazer movement was sparked by Manchester United’s failed attempt at joining a newly created Super European League alongside some of the continent’s most popular and powerful clubs, but the idea has since been cancelled amidst criticism by the football world.
