Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt, 22, has left Juventus and signed a five-year contract with Bayern Munich

Lucas Hernandez, Dayot Upamecano, Benjamin Pavard, Tanguy Kouassi and now Matthijs de Ligt. Bayern Munich on Tuesday concluded the recruitment of the 22-year-old Dutch defender, who had been playing for Juventus since 2019. A five-year contract has been signed (until June 2027).

The amount of the transfer has been revealed : 67 million euros are guaranteed for Juventus, who can potentially recover up to 10 million additional euros in bonuses, according to a press release from the Italian club – which had itself paid 80 million euros three years ago.

“De Ligt should become a mainstay”

“I am very happy to become a player of this great club, FC Bayern is the most successful club in Germany, one of the most successful clubs from Europe and the world. From the start, I felt a real esteem from the sports management, the coach and the board of directors, which convinced me. In addition, FC Bayern is a brilliantly run club with big goals. I’m very happy to be part of FC Bayern’s history.”

Said Matthijs de Ligt, quoted in the club’s announcement statement.

“Matthijs de Ligt was one of our main targets. With such signings, the big goals we have are achievable. The future face of our team is taking shape more and more and this transfer is an element important part of the overall concept that we are gradually putting in place. De Ligt should become a pillar of FC Bayern”.

Says Bavarian President Herbert Hainer.

Bremer to Juventus

This is Bayern’s fourth summer transfer, following the signings of Noussair Mazraoui (free), Ryan Gravenberch and Sadio Mané . It is estimated that more than 117.5 million euros have been committed in total.

As for Juventus, a replacement is already approaching: Gleison Bremer (25). The Brazilian defender of Torino should commit in the next few hours as part of a transfer to 40 million euros (excluding bonuses).
