Chelsea lost on penalties against Charlotte (1-1, 5 tab 3) in a friendly match on Wednesday. Midfielder Conor Gallagher completely missed a panenka on the Blues’ final attempt.
After their victory against Club America (2-1) , Chelsea lost on penalties against Charlotte (1-1, 5 tab 3), Wednesday for their second pre-season match. American Christian Pulisic shone in his native country by opening the scoring (30th) before the MLS franchise equalized in added time through Daniel Armando Rios (90th +2).
The two teams therefore decided on penalties and the session turned in favor of Charlotte, after a missed strike from Conor Gallagher (22). The midfielder tried a panenka but completely missed by shooting limply in the axis. Mexican goalkeeper Pablo Siniega had not moved and therefore easily seized the ball, before displaying a big smile. The failure of the English player also amused the Charlotte bench.
Above all, he gave the advantage to the team that the last two shooters did not spoil by concretizing their shots and offering a prestigious success.
No official match with the Blues yet
Trained at Chelsea, Conor Gallagher has never played an official match with the first team. He has chained loans to Charlton, West Bromwich Albion, Swansea and Crystal Palace where he played last season. He could finally have his chance this season since Thomas Tuchel hinted that he could count on him. The German coach particularly praised his good match against Club America.
“It was a very good start and a good match for him, he confided. Now it’s important that he gets used to our principles of the game, that he understands when to move and when not to move, and his work rate is exceptional. He can be a big asset to us. Conor is training at a very high level. You can clearly see that it was the right decision to let him go on loan. He did a great not in his development at Palace and became an English player.”
Among the things for improvement, Gallagher can tick the box: shot on goal.
