Bruno Fernandes says Manchester United ‘deserve’ a top-four finish this season as they remain in a battle to qualify for the Champions League.

Man United currently occupy a Champions League spot, but they’re just one point ahead of fifth-placed Liverpool, who are hot on their heels.

The Red Devils have played a game less than Jurgen Klopp’s side ahead of their trip to the Molineux to face Wolves on Saturday.

But Liverpool have won six league games in a row as they look to secure a Champions League place this season.

However, Fernandes believes his side ‘deserve’ to play in Europe’s premier club competition next season.

“We want Champions League football,”

“This club deserves it, this club has to be in that position.

“I think these players deserve to be there, too, because we have such a great team that has been doing a great job this season when no one thought Man Utd could be fighting for the top four.”

He told Sky Sports.

The Portuguese midfielder added:

“We know everyone is now saying, ‘Oh Man Utd has been great’, but I remember in the beginning of the season no one put our team in the top six so I think it is a good surprise for them but not for us.

“We knew that we could be there, we know that we could be even higher in the league.

“We had our moments and that’s why we’re in the position of fighting for the top four and not bigger things. But I think soon, this club, these players will be fighting for much bigger things.”

Man United’s destiny is in their own hands, but Erik ten Hag’s team are currently facing a mini blip having suffered back-to-back defeats to Brighton and West Ham United.

They have 69 points on the board and take on Wolves, Chelsea, Bournemouth and Fulham before the season’s out.

As for Liverpool, they’re on 68 points and have three league games remaining in Leicester City, Aston Villa and Southampton.

Who will finish in the top-four? Let us know.
