The English championship has its future boss: it is Alison Brittain, 57, who was elected president of the Premier League unanimously.

Alison Brittain has been elected president of the Premier League , a first for a woman, the Premier League organizers announced on Tuesday. The appointment of Ms. Brittain, 57, was unanimously endorsed by the 20 clubs of the English elite.

She will succeed in early 2023 Peter McCormick, the interim president since January and the resignation of Gary Hoffman due to the clubs’ hostile reaction to the takeover of the Newcastle club by a Saudi public investment fund. Ms Brittain was previously CEO of Whitbread, a hotel and restaurant group, after a career that began in banking.

“I have been a football fan since childhood and I am absolutely delighted to be named President of the Premier League ,”

She explained in the statement.

“Alison has had a positive impact on every organization she has been in (…) She has an excellent track record in business, brings projects to life with a no-nonsense style, and is respected and appreciated in every industry she has worked in”,

Underlined Richard Masters, the chief executive of the Premier League.
