Khalid Faleh Al Thani, a member of the royal family, would have confirmed this in a letter, referring to an offer already made and the desire to quickly acquire the Genoa club, currently last in Serie A.

Qatar will perhaps extend its influence on the chessboard of European football. According to ANSA , the Middle Eastern emirate intends to buy Sampdoria soon. The Italian agency has obtained an email sent by a Swiss mediator, which certifies a letter from Khalid Faleh Al Thani, a member of the Qatari royal family, in which he announces an intention to invest in the club of Genoa, currently last in Serie A.

This letter evokes “a keen interest in the acquisition of Sampdoria”, even speaking of an offer already formulated and a desire to “close the file as quickly as possible”. Former midfielder Ivano Bonetti, who passed through Sampdoria and Juventus, would be part of this project, as would Francesco Di Silvio, an entrepreneur who works in the world of cinema.

Contacts revealed by the boss of Samp

Since the departure at the end of last year of Massimo Ferrero, accused of having bankrupted several companies fraudulently, Sampdoria has been led by Gianluca Vidal. The latter revealed a few weeks ago that he had been approached by the Al Thani family, via a lawyer. Other investors have also been interested in the Italian team since the start of the year.

Since the summer of 2011, Qatar has already owned PSG through Qatar Sports Investments, a subsidiary of the sovereign wealth fund Qatar Investment Authority. Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, close to Emir Tamim ben Hamad Al Thani, is its president. The emirate is preparing to host the 2022 World Cup (from November 21 to December 18), against a backdrop of controversy linked to the conditions of organization. As a reminder, an investor cannot hold two clubs competing in the same competition on the Old Continent.
